Support NPOAS at #ASBrS2021

NOTE: The 2020 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons in Las Vegas, which we had planned on attending as exhibitors, was recently cancelled due to the pandemic. Therefore, we look forward to attending the 2021 Meeting in Orlando, Florida, next Spring. All donations from the #ASBRS2020 campaign will be rolled over to fund our attendance at the 2021 Meeting.

A First in Flat Closure Advocacy

History is going to be made at the American Society of Breast Surgeons annual conference in Spring 2021 in Orlando, Florida. The NPOAS Board will be attending this conference with an exhibitor’s booth to advocate for flat closure. We will be engaging providers one on one, providing brochures for surgeons to take back home and use in their practices, learning about and supporting coding and oncoplastic training, and engaging with researchers.

We thank you in advance for your contribution to this critical endeavor that we are undertaking on behalf of all women!

About The ASBrS Conference

The American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) is a professional medical society of general surgeons specializing in the treatment of breast disease. Their annual meeting is held every Spring, and brings members together to network, learn about the latest research in the field, and to participate in hands on trainings.

Why We Are Attending

The conference provides unique advocacy opportunities.

Not Putting on a Shirt collaborates with diverse stakeholders to effect durable institutional change, and chief among these are breast surgeons. By meeting these medical professionals where they’re at, we are able to leverage unique advocacy opportunities to:

  • Engage providers in one-on-one discussion about flat closure
  • Give interested providers brochures to take back and use in their practice
  • Network with other stakeholders – including the NAPBC – to promote our mission
  • Learn about the latest research in oncoplastic breast surgery
  • Offer a flat closure patient’s perspective during the debate
  • Engage with researchers to promote further studies to support an improved, evidence-based standard of care for flat closure

Conference Highlights

We look forward to seeing some of our Flat Friendly Directory Surgeons as well as other professional and institutional stakeholders.

Our Directory Surgeons are the best of the best. At the San Antonio conference in December 2019, we saw several of these fine professionals presenting, and we are looking forward to seeing more familiar faces at #ASBrS2021! We will be updating this section regularly as ASBRS publishes more conference details.

Dr. Juliann Reiland, an expert in oncoplastic breast surgery, will be teaching intermediate oncoplasty in a hands-on pre-meeting surgical training course.

Dr. Richard Fine, former President of ASBrS and current Chairman of the Board, leads the annual Coding and Reimbursement Symposium. Insurance coding is a big roadblock to parity for flat closure and investment in this initiative is critical.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) will be hosts an annual exhibitor’s booth at ASBrS. NAPBC maintains the reconstructive consult protocol that NPOAS is targeting to include aesthetic flat closure. (Learn More)

How We Use Your Donation

Conference attendance is the single largest expense in our annual budget at NPOAS. The cost is proportional to the importance of the event – engaging medical professionals and making the case for aesthetic flat closure is absolutely critical to achieving parity. This is how our conference budget breaks down – please contact us with any questions.

Stay Tuned for Updates!

During and after the conference, we will be providing updates at the blog and on this page. You can also follow our blog by joining our mailing list!
