Indiana AFC Bill Becomes Law

BIG NEWS out of Indiana! The governor has just signed a bill into law requiring insurance to cover aesthetic flat closure (AFC)! Huge congratulations to Heather Hogan Pirowski and the Hoosier Breast Cancer Advocates for getting this accomplished. Indiana is the second state to pass such legislation, after New York (2022). Way to put FLAT on the menu, Indiana!

“This bill expands the definition of breast reconstruction to include chest wall reconstruction and aesthetic flat closure so that more women can access these procedures.” – State Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis)

We couldn’t be happier to see this legislation signed into law. Mastectomy patients in Indiana are now protected and can access AFC at initial mastectomy, revision and explant without having to fear that their insurance won’t cover their necessary care.
